Outdoor succulents are the lowest-water planting available in the UAE: agave, yucca, euphorbia and mixed succulents need water roughly once a month in summer and almost none in winter. The one thing that kills them here is not heat but wet feet — they need fast-draining, gritty soil and a pot with a working drainage hole.
A little more to know.
How often should I water succulents outdoors in Dubai?
About every two to four weeks in summer and monthly or less in winter, always letting the soil dry completely first. Overwatering, not heat, is the usual cause of death. Never leave a saucer of standing water under an outdoor succulent.
Do cacti and succulents survive UAE summer in full sun?
Most do, but smaller soft succulents such as echeveria can scorch at midday in July and August. Give small succulents morning sun with afternoon shade; agave, yucca and euphorbia handle full sun all year.
