A considered choice
Find what feels
right at home.
The flowering trees that perform in the UAE are the flame tree (scarlet, May–July), tabebuia or pink trumpet tree (pink, on bare branches in spring), bauhinia or orchid tree (mauve, November–March), cassia or golden shower (hanging yellow chains, late spring) and peltophorum (yellow, with summer shade). Choose by flowering month and by how close you need to plant to paving.
A little more to know.
Which flowering tree is best for a small UAE villa garden?
The Hong Kong orchid tree (Bauhinia). It tops out near 6 metres rather than 10–12, flowers from November to March when the garden is actually in use, and has a root system that will not lift a driveway the way a flame tree's will.
Which flowering tree can I plant near a driveway or pool?
Tabebuia (pink trumpet tree) has the best-behaved roots of the flowering trees we stock, which is why UAE municipalities plant it along paved boulevards. Avoid the flame tree near hard landscaping — keep it at least 4 metres clear of slabs and walls.
How long does it take a flowering tree to flower in the UAE?
At the garden grades we supply (30–50 litre), expect first flowering in the second season after planting for flame, tabebuia and bauhinia, and often the first season for tecoma stans and cassia. Deep, infrequent watering in year one matters more than feeding.
