Artificial hedges in Dubai and the UAE
Artificial hedges give you an instant, permanently green privacy screen with no water, no trimming and no light — which is why they are the usual answer for a shaded Dubai balcony, a rented villa where you cannot plant, or an office corner with no daylight. They come in three formats: panels fixed to a wall or railing, rolls on a frame, and hedges planted in a free-standing planter. The one spec that decides whether any of them survives is UV stability: unstabilised foliage fades to grey-yellow in a single UAE summer. Ours are UV-stable, delivered assembled in a matte fibre planter from AED 1,399, and free-standing so nothing is drilled.

Panels, planters or rolls — which format to buy
| Format | Best for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Hedge in a planter (what we sell) | Balcony edges, terraces, rented villas, office corners — anywhere you cannot drill or plant. Arrives assembled and free-standing. | Heavier than a bare panel, so plan the position before delivery. Weight is what stops it moving in a shamal wind. |
| Panels fixed to a wall or railing | Covering an existing boundary wall, chain-link or a glass balustrade across a long run. Cheapest per metre. | Needs drilling and cable ties, so check your tenancy contract and building rules first. Panels sag if the fixing points are more than 50cm apart. |
| Rolls on a frame | Long villa boundaries where cost per metre matters more than finish. | The most obviously fake at close range, and the cheapest rolls are the first to fade. Fine at 3 metres, poor beside a seating area. |
| Live screening plants | Villa gardens with irrigation and an owner who will trim. Cheaper long-term and far better for heat and dust. | Needs water, feed and a trim every 6–8 weeks, and takes a season to close. See our live options below. |

What to check before you buy in the UAE
UV stability is the only spec that matters
In UAE sun, unstabilised polyethylene goes from green to grey-yellow in one summer. Ask any seller for the UV rating before you compare prices. Even a UV-stable hedge in direct sun is a two-to-three-year item here, so the real comparison is stabilised foliage replaced every few years against cheap foliage replaced every year.
Buy for the viewing distance
Multi-tone foliage with varied leaf sizes reads as real from 1–2 metres, which is what you need beside a dining table. Single-tone boxwood reads fine at 3 metres or more along a boundary.
Plan for dust, not rain
The UAE problem is not weather, it is dust. A hose-down every 6–8 weeks keeps an artificial hedge looking new; leave it a year and the dust dulls it more than the sun does.
Fire safety in shared buildings
Many Dubai towers require fire-retardant material for anything on a balcony. Check your building's rules before fixing panels to a balustrade.
Live screening, if you have light and water
A planted ficus or bamboo run costs less per metre, cools the air around it, and thickens every year. It needs irrigation and a trim every 6–8 weeks.

Artificial hedges, answered
How much does an artificial hedge cost in Dubai?
A hedge delivered in a planter, ready to stand, starts at AED 1,399 at Heavenly Plants. Bare panels from hardware stores run roughly AED 40–120 per square metre depending on UV rating and leaf density, plus fixings and labour. Rolls are cheapest per metre and look it. Delivery is free on orders over AED 300.
Are artificial hedge panels or a planted artificial hedge better for a balcony?
A planted hedge if you rent: it is free-standing, needs no drilling, and moves with you. Panels if you own the wall and want a long run covered cheaply. Most Dubai apartment leases and building rules restrict fixing anything to a balustrade, which is why the planter version is the common choice in towers.
What is the difference between artificial boxwood and artificial privet hedge?
Boxwood has small, dense, uniform leaves and reads as a clipped formal hedge — good for low borders and wall panels. Privet has larger, looser, two-tone leaves that look more natural at close range, which suits a hedge you sit beside. Boxwood is more forgiving at a distance; privet is more convincing up close.
How do I clean an artificial hedge in the UAE?
Rinse it with a hose on a low setting every 6–8 weeks and let it air-dry. For a balcony that catches heavy dust, wipe the top surfaces with a damp microfibre cloth in between. Do not use a pressure washer or solvents — both strip the UV coating that keeps the colour stable.
Can an artificial hedge be used indoors in an office?
Yes, and it is the easiest option for a low-light corner, a partition between desks, or a lift lobby with no natural light, where a live hedge would fail. Indoors it needs nothing but an occasional dusting. If the space does have light, a live ficus or bamboo palm screen is worth considering instead.
How many metres of artificial hedge do I need?
Measure the run you want covered and add 10% for corners and overlaps. A single planted hedge unit screens roughly one metre of width; a 3-metre balcony edge usually takes three units placed shoulder to shoulder. Send us the measurement on WhatsApp and we will confirm the count before you order.
