Diwali plant gifts in the UAE: what to send and when to order

Diwali is Sunday 8 November 2026. The living gifts that suit it in Dubai and the UAE, which to skip for homes with pets, and when to order.

For Diwali on Sunday 8 November 2026, the living gifts that make most sense in the UAE are a money plant (golden pothos), a flowering orchid, a jasmine, a tray of marigolds for the doorway, or our ready-made Good Luck Set. For a home with cats or dogs, choose the orchid, the jasmine or a spider plant, because pothos, snake plant and monstera are toxic to pets per the ASPCA. Order a few days ahead: Dubai is same-day on orders placed before 1pm, and Abu Dhabi and Sharjah are next-day.

Why Diwali week suits a plant gift in the UAE

Diwali 2026 falls on Sunday 8 November, inside a five-day festival that runs from Dhanteras on Friday 6 November to Bhai Dooj on Wednesday 11 November. Gifts pass between families, neighbours and colleagues across the whole week, so a plant that arrives a few days before the main evening is on time, not early.

The timing suits plants too. Early November is the start of the UAE's mild season: a plant travels without summer heat in the van, and once it arrives it has five cool months to settle in before May. A box of mithai or dry fruit is finished within the week. A golden pothos or an orchid is still in the room in spring.

This page is only about Diwali: which plants suit it, which to skip in a home with pets, and when to order. For plant gifts in general, including housewarmings, new babies, Eid and office gifts, see our guide to plant gifts in Dubai.

The money plant: a prosperity belief, and a plant that survives anyway

In many Indian households the money plant is kept as a sign of prosperity, and it is one of the plants most often given at Diwali and for a new home or shop. That is a belief, and we present it as one: the plant will not change anyone's finances. What it will do is survive a Dubai flat, which is a better reason to give it.

In the UAE, 'money plant' means golden pothos, Epipremnum aureum. Our Golden Pothos is AED 55 in a 12cm pot and arrives with roughly 30 to 45cm of trailing vine. It copes with AC, low to bright indirect light and a missed watering, and it grows for years rooted in a jar of water on a kitchen shelf, which is how many families keep it. If a relative means something else by money plant, our explainer on golden pothos and the other 'money plants' untangles the names.

The Good Luck Set, and reaching the AED 300 minimum

The Good Luck Set is the ready-made version: a snake plant 'Laurentii', a golden pothos and a monstera for AED 249, against AED 289 bought separately. Snake plant and money plant are both commonly given for luck in a new home or business, and the monstera adds the size that makes the set look like a gift rather than a shelf plant. All three tolerate an air-conditioned room and irregular watering, which matters in a house that is busy hosting for a week.

Two practical points. First, AED 249 is below our AED 300 order minimum, so the set needs something else in the same order; delivery on that order is then free. Two baskets that clear it:

  • Good Luck Set 249 + a Marigold Tray of six plants 59 = AED 308, which puts festival colour at the door as well.
  • Good Luck Set 249 + an Orchid 149 = AED 398, for a household that would also like flowers.

Marigolds and jasmine: the festival flowers as living plants

Marigolds are the flower of Diwali decoration, strung into garlands over doorways and scattered into rangoli, and a strung garland is finished within days. A tray of six living marigolds, AED 59, planted in a pot by the front door or in a balcony box, keeps flowering through the UAE season, which the product page gives as November to March. It needs full sun. On pets, marigolds are a grey area: the ASPCA does not list Tagetes, the marigold sold for Diwali, and the marigold on its non-toxic list is Calendula, a different plant. Treat them with caution around a dog that strips plants.

Jasmine is the other festival flower. Jasminum sambac is the mogra of Indian garlands and hair gajra and the Arabian jasmine of Gulf courtyards: the same plant. Our Jasmine is AED 119 in a 14cm pot, and the ASPCA lists jasmine (Jasminum species) as non-toxic to cats and dogs.

Be realistic about the timing. Sambac flowers most heavily from spring to autumn and needs real sun to do it, so a plant given in November may carry only a few flowers. It is a gift of next season's scent, and it does best by a sunny window or on a balcony rather than in the middle of a room.

The orchid: the safest bet for flowers on the day

If the gift needs to be in flower for the evening itself, choose the orchid. Ours is a Phalaenopsis, AED 149, arriving at roughly 55 to 70cm including its flower spike. In an air-conditioned home a spike often stays in flower for two to three months, so a Diwali orchid can still be blooming at New Year. The ASPCA lists Phalaenopsis as non-toxic to cats and dogs, which makes it the one flowering gift here that needs no pet caveat.

Its needs are modest: bright indirect light, a spot out of the direct AC stream, and a soak of the bark only once it has dried, followed by a full drain. An orchid left in soggy bark rots within weeks, and AC air makes the surface look dry long before the roots are, so tell the recipient not to water it on a schedule.

If the home has cats or dogs

The safest picks for a pet household are the orchid and the jasmine above, both on the ASPCA non-toxic list. Add a Spider Plant, AED 49, also listed by the ASPCA as non-toxic to cats and dogs, and the three come to AED 317: over the order minimum, with flowers now, scent later in the season and an easy plant that grows almost anywhere bright.

Several of the most popular Diwali plants and flowers are on the ASPCA toxic list, so check before you buy:

  • Golden pothos, snake plant and monstera: toxic to cats and dogs. That is the whole Good Luck Set.
  • The money plant search trap: the ASPCA's non-toxic 'money plant' entry is the money tree, Pachira aquatica, not golden pothos. The money plant given at Diwali in the UAE is the toxic one.
  • Lavender and eucalyptus, which are in our scented plant set: toxic to cats and dogs.
  • Cut lilies (Lilium) in a festive bouquet: toxic to cats, and the ASPCA gives kidney failure as the sign. Keep them out of any home with a cat.
  • Chrysanthemums, common in garlands and arrangements: toxic to cats and dogs.

When to order for Diwali 2026

There is no delivery-date picker at checkout, so an order is delivered on our normal schedule from the moment you place it. Plan backwards from that. The full cut-off details are on our same-day delivery page.

  • Dubai: same-day on orders placed before 1pm, otherwise next-day.
  • Abu Dhabi and Sharjah: next-day.
  • Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah: within 48 hours, and only hardy plants and hardgoods go to these emirates. For a gift to one of them, ask us on WhatsApp on +971 50 136 8558 which plants can go before you order.
  • Our advice: order by Wednesday 4 November for anywhere outside Dubai, so that even a 48-hour delivery is due by Friday 6 November, the first day of the festival. For Dubai, a few days' margin is still worth having. Leaving the order to Diwali Sunday itself is the one thing we would avoid.

Checkout for a gift, and what the recipient can claim

At checkout, enter the recipient's address and tick 'This is a gift'. That lets you add a message of up to 200 characters and hide prices on the delivery note.

Pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. Cash on delivery works as a split, 50% in advance by a card link we send on WhatsApp and 50% in cash at the door, and at a gift address the door is the recipient's.

Before dispatch we send you a real WhatsApp photo of the actual plant; the photos on our site are AI-generated and labelled as such. Every plant is covered by our alive-on-arrival guarantee: a photo within 24 hours of delivery gets a free replacement, so ask the recipient to send you one when it arrives. After that comes a 14-day settle-in promise: if the plant struggles in its first 14 days despite following the care card, message us and we replace it once. The ready-made sets are in our gifting bundles collection.

A little more clarity

Common questions.

When should I order a Diwali plant gift in the UAE?

By Wednesday 4 November 2026 for an address outside Dubai, so that even a 48-hour delivery is due by Friday 6 November, when the five-day festival starts. Dubai orders placed before 1pm arrive the same day. There is no delivery-date picker, so the plant arrives on the normal schedule from when you order.

Is the Good Luck Set safe for a home with cats or dogs?

No. The set is a snake plant, a golden pothos and a monstera, and the ASPCA lists all three as toxic to cats and dogs. For a home with pets, send a Phalaenopsis orchid, a jasmine or a spider plant; the ASPCA lists all three as non-toxic. Together they come to AED 317, which clears the AED 300 minimum.

Are lilies and chrysanthemums in a Diwali bouquet dangerous for a cat?

Yes. Both are on the ASPCA toxic list for cats. True lilies (Lilium) are the more serious: the ASPCA gives kidney failure as the sign in cats, so keep them out of any home with a cat. Chrysanthemums can cause vomiting, diarrhoea and drooling in cats and dogs.

Will a jasmine plant be in flower for Diwali?

Possibly only lightly. Jasminum sambac flowers most heavily from spring to autumn and needs direct sun to flower, so a plant given in early November may carry just a few blooms. It is a gift for the season ahead. For flowers on the evening itself, a Phalaenopsis orchid is the more reliable choice.

Does the Good Luck Set meet the AED 300 minimum order on its own?

No. It is AED 249, so it needs at least AED 51 more in the same order. A marigold tray (AED 59) brings it to AED 308 and an orchid (AED 149) to AED 398. Delivery is free on every order that meets the minimum.
