Can I buy marigold plants for Diwali in Dubai?

Yes. We sell live marigolds as trays of six plants for AED 59, delivered free with the AED 300 minimum order, same-day in Dubai on orders before 1pm. Diwali falls on 8 November 2026, right at the start of the UAE marigold season, so plants bought for it keep flowering on a sunny balcony until about March.

Timing is on your side. Marigolds are a cool-season annual here: they go in from October, once the nights begin to cool, flower from November and keep going through the winter. When days climb back towards 40°C in April they finish, which is the normal end of an annual rather than something you did wrong. Why that happens, and which outdoor plants last through summer instead, is covered in winter annuals vs summer survivors.

Marigolds need full sun, at least five to six hours of it. In the UAE winter the sun sits low in the southern sky, so a south- or west-facing balcony that is far too harsh in July is ideal from November, while a north-facing one gets little direct winter sun and gives leggy plants with few flowers. In a villa, a bed or pots either side of the entrance in full sun is the traditional spot.

Plan the doorway display around the light. A pot outside an apartment's front door, in an air-conditioned corridor, is fine for the festival evenings if your building allows it, but move it back to the balcony afterwards: marigolds kept out of the sun soon stop flowering and stretch. Annual trays do not need big pots for one season; six plants fill a 60cm rail planter, and two or three sit comfortably in a 25–30cm pot. Use potting mix rather than garden sand and raise pots off hot tile.

To keep them flowering until March, pinch off each flower as it fades, water daily while October and November are still warm (every day or two from December), and give a light feed every couple of weeks. Check the undersides of the leaves weekly for spider mite, which shows as fine pale speckling.

A marigold tray is AED 59, so it usually goes out with other items to reach the AED 300 minimum: three trays and a pair of balcony rail planters come to AED 326, with two trays for the rails and one for pots by the door. The photos on our site are AI-generated, so we send you a real WhatsApp photo of your actual trays before dispatch, which also shows you how far into flower they are. Petunias and vinca for a mixed display are in the winter colour collection, and other festival gifts and order timing are in Diwali plant gifts in the UAE.

Can I make a Diwali garland from marigold plants?

Not realistically. A door toran or a set of garlands uses far more flower heads than a few plants carry open at any one time. Buy garlands as cut flowers for the festival days and use the live plants for the pots at the door and on the balcony, where they keep flowering long after the garlands have dried. Picking a handful of fresh heads for a rangoli or a puja thali is fine: cutting flowers encourages new buds, the same as deadheading.

Are the marigolds sold for Diwali safe around pets?

The ASPCA lists pot marigold (Calendula officinalis) as non-toxic to cats and dogs, but that is a different plant. The Tagetes marigolds sold for Diwali, including ours, are not on the ASPCA list, so treat them with caution: keep them where a puppy cannot strip them, and call your vet if a pet eats a quantity.
