Which outdoor plants are safe for dogs in a UAE garden?
Three plants used constantly in UAE landscaping are genuinely dangerous to dogs, and they are worth naming plainly: sago palm (every part, seeds worst, causes liver failure and is often fatal), yellow oleander and common oleander (both carry cardiac glycosides). If any are already in your garden and you have a dog that chews, removal is the honest advice.
Safe planting is easy to do without compromise. Ruellia and wedelia cover ground, dianella gives structure, elephant bush handles pots and low hedging, and dodonaea screens a boundary — none of them toxic.
Middle-ground plants — flame tree, cassia, tecoma, dianella — are a pod-and-berry problem rather than a foliage one. They are fine in a dog garden as long as fallen pods are cleared from the lawn rather than left to be chewed.
