Areca Palm: common questions
Is an areca palm a good indoor plant for a Dubai apartment?
Yes, in bright indirect light — a few metres from a large window, not a dark corner. It handles AC temperatures well but not dry, moving air, so keep it off the vent line and group it with other plants. It is on the ASPCA non-toxic list for cats and dogs, which is the main reason people choose it over other floor plants.
How tall is the indoor areca palm when it arrives?
About 100–130cm including its 21cm nursery pot (an estimate, not a measured spec), for AED 165. Indoors it slowly fills out to around 1.5–2m.
Should I buy the indoor or the outdoor areca palm?
The indoor areca (AED 165) is for a living room or office. The 150cm Areca Palm — Outdoor (AED 229) is for a shaded balcony, courtyard or north- or east-facing villa boundary. Neither takes full UAE summer sun: the fronds yellow and crisp within weeks.
