# Should I repot a plant straight after delivery?

**Short answer:** No. Give a newly delivered plant two to four weeks in its nursery pot to recover from transit before repotting, unless the pot is cracked or roots are circling out of the drainage holes. When you do repot, go up only one size (2–4cm wider) and use fresh, well-draining mix. Most people can simply drop the nursery pot into a decorative planter.

Repotting is a second shock on top of the move: roots are disturbed, soil moisture changes, and the plant has to re-establish just as it is adapting to your light and AC. Wait until it shows new growth, which tells you it has settled.
The easiest approach is the cache-pot method. Leave the plant in its plastic nursery pot and set it inside a [decorative planter](https://heavenlyplants.ae/collections/pots-planters) that is 1–2cm wider. Lift it out to water in the sink, let it drain, and put it back. No mess, no root disturbance, and you can swap planters whenever you like.
Repot properly when roots fill the pot, water runs straight through without soaking in, or the plant dries out within a couple of days. Spring and autumn are ideal in the UAE. Use a pot with drainage and a mix suited to the plant: chunky for monstera, gritty for succulents and string of hearts, standard for pothos.
