# How often should I water indoor plants in an air-conditioned Dubai apartment?

**Short answer:** Less often than you expect. In a 22–24°C air-conditioned apartment, soil dries slowly, so most tropical houseplants need water every 10–14 days and succulents, snake plants and ZZ plants every 2–3 weeks. Check the top 2–3cm of soil with a finger and water only when it is dry; overwatering kills far more Dubai plants than heat.

Air conditioning changes two things: it keeps the room cool, which slows how fast roots take up water, and it dries the air, which stresses leaves. The result is soil that stays wet for a long time while leaf tips go brown, and people respond by watering more, which is exactly wrong.
Use the finger test rather than a schedule. Push a finger into the pot to the second knuckle. Dry: water thoroughly until it runs out of the drainage hole, then empty the saucer. Damp: wait and check again in three days. Plants that wilt when thirsty, such as [peace lily](https://heavenlyplants.ae/products/peace-lily) and pothos, make this easy; plants that hide thirst, such as ZZ and snake plant, should always be under-watered rather than over.
For dry-air stress, group plants together, keep them out of the direct vent stream, and mist or use a pebble tray for humidity-lovers. The per-plant numbers are in our [care guides](https://heavenlyplants.ae/care), each written for UAE rooms.
