Ziziphus spina-christi — the sidr, native across Arabia, source of sidr honey and one of the most drought-hardy shade trees that will grow here. Dense canopy, small edible fruit, and once established it survives on rainfall and the occasional deep soak. Full sun. A garden tree with actual local meaning.

UAE note: Native, edible-fruited and deeply drought-tolerant. Like the Ghaf it is thorny, so site it away from paths and play areas.
