Peltophorum is the shade tree UAE landscapers reach for when they want a flame tree's canopy without a flame tree's roots — dense fern-like foliage, copper seed pods, and sprays of yellow flowers in summer. Fast on irrigation, tolerant of salty coastal wind, and one of the few flowering trees that holds its leaves through a Gulf summer. Full sun, deep water twice weekly for the first year.

UAE note: Holds its canopy through a Gulf summer and takes coastal salt wind, which is why it shades more UAE car parks than any other flowering tree.
