# Ornamental Fountain Grass

Movement in a still garden

- Price: AED 69 (was AED 89)
- Availability: in stock, ships same day in Dubai on orders before 1pm
- Delivered size: approx. 60-80 cm tall · 20 cm pot (estimate)
- Botanical name: Pennisetum setaceum
- Pet safety: non-toxic to cats and dogs (ASPCA)

Pennisetum throws up soft bottlebrush plumes on arching stems that catch every bit of wind and evening light — the texture that stops a gravel garden looking static. Drought-tolerant once rooted. Full sun, water weekly, cut back to the base each September before the new season.

## Care in UAE conditions

- Watering: In a pot: deeply every 2-4 days May-September, every 5-7 days in the cool season. Rooted in the ground: a deep weekly soak once established
- Light: Full sun, six hours or more. Grows thin and floppy with few plumes in shade
- Temperature: Takes UAE summer heat in full sun. Cut back each September and it regrows through the cool season
- Humidity: Indifferent to humidity: dry air and humid coastal summers are both fine
- Soil: Free-draining: sandy garden soil, or potting mix with about a third coarse sand or grit in a pot
- Feeding: Light: a balanced slow-release feed after the September cut and again in early spring

UAE note: Movement on a windy high floor, where a stiff shrub just looks battered. Cut it to a fist in late winter and it comes back thicker; it seeds itself freely, so deadhead if you have neighbours below.
