# Hopbush Hedge (Dodonaea viscosa) — 5 Plants

The fastest screen that survives summer

- Price: AED 169 (was AED 225)
- Availability: in stock, ships same day in Dubai on orders before 1pm
- Delivered size: approx. 55-75 cm per plant · 18 cm pot (estimate)
- Botanical name: Dodonaea viscosa
- Pet safety: non-toxic to cats and dogs (ASPCA)

Five dodonaea — narrow, slightly sticky leaves on an upright shrub that closes into a 2m screen faster than almost anything else that survives a Gulf summer unshaded. Papery pink seed capsules in autumn. Native-adjacent, deep-rooting, and once established it wants less water than the ficus hedge most people default to. Full sun, water every 2 days for the first month, then twice weekly.

## Care in UAE conditions

- Watering: Daily for the first month, then twice weekly deep soaks
- Light: Full sun. Grows leggy and thin in shade
- Temperature: Handles full unshaded Gulf summer heat
- Humidity: No requirement. Wind-tolerant
- Soil: Free-draining sandy soil; hates waterlogging
- Feeding: One granular feed in October to drive the cool-season flush

UAE note: Closes into a 2m screen faster than almost anything that survives an unshaded Gulf summer, and asks for less water than the ficus hedge most people default to.
