# Croton Outdoor (Codiaeum)

Leaves that do the work of flowers

- Price: AED 49 (was AED 65)
- Availability: in stock, ships same day in Dubai on orders before 1pm
- Delivered size: approx. 50-70 cm tall · 18 cm pot (estimate)
- Botanical name: Codiaeum variegatum
- Pet safety: not pet-safe — Milky latex containing diterpene esters — burns the mouth, and causes vomiting in cats and dogs.

Croton earns its place on colour alone — yellow, orange and red variegation that holds all year with no flowering season to wait for. The brighter the light, the stronger the colour. Water every 2 days in summer, keep it out of cold winter wind on an exposed balcony.

UAE note: Grown for the leaf colour, which only develops in strong light — but direct July sun on a west balcony scorches it. The bright-shade band is narrow, and it is exactly where a Gulf balcony is most useful.
