Five clerodendrum inerme — the glossy, salt-tolerant hedge that lines Gulf beachfront properties, carrying small scented white flowers most of the year. Takes clipping into a formal hedge or runs loose as an informal screen. This is the hedge to use where sea spray or brackish irrigation kills everything else. Full sun to part shade, water every 2 days while it knits, then twice weekly.

UAE note: The hedge that holds on a salt-sprayed Gulf plot or under brackish TSE irrigation, where a ficus hedge browns off and dies back.
