# Pride of Barbados (Caesalpinia)

Orange-and-red flower heads, all summer

- Price: AED 89 (was AED 119)
- Availability: in stock, ships same day in Dubai on orders before 1pm
- Delivered size: approx. 60-80 cm tall · 24 cm pot (estimate)
- Botanical name: Caesalpinia pulcherrima
- Pet safety: not pet-safe — Seeds and pods cause vomiting if eaten; the stems carry thorns.

Caesalpinia flowers hardest in the months when everything else in a UAE garden is just surviving — flat heads of orange and scarlet from May to September, on a shrub that takes full afternoon sun against a west wall. Thorny stems, so plant it back from a path. Cut it hard in February and it comes back denser. Full sun, water twice weekly, no feeding needed.

UAE note: One of the few shrubs that flowers hardest May to September, including against a west-facing wall that radiates heat all evening.
